FUNGI FRIDAY ALERT!
We are re-featuring Cladosporium as it is one of the most common culprits we find during testing.
What Is Cladosporium?
Cladosporium is a genus of fungi that includes many species, some of which are commonly found in air and on surfaces. It appears in green, brown, or black colors and has a powdery or velvety texture. It’s a slow-growing mold that thrives in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Where It’s Found
Indoors:
HVAC systems
Carpets and upholstery
Wood, drywall, and painted surfaces
Around windows and bathrooms (especially in areas with high humidity)
Outdoors:
On plant matter (leaves, soil, decaying wood)
On siding or outdoor furniture
Cladosporium is one of the most common indoor molds — often found on windowsills, HVAC components, and damp building materials. While typically not toxic, it can trigger allergy and asthma symptoms in sensitive individuals. If you’re noticing musty odors or unexplained health symptoms, it may be time for a professional mold inspection.
