~~FUNGI FRIDAY~~
Genus: Chaetomium
Chaetomium is a genus of mold commonly found in plant debris, soil, and wood. If it makes its way inside, it can also be found on cellulose items, drywall, paper and both softwood and hardwood. Compared to others, Chaetomium is a fast growing mold that is also unique because it it not usually found airborne within the home during its active growing stage in large quantities, unless the area its growing has been disturbed or it has completely dried out. This can make it harder to detect.
The health effects of prolonged exposure to Chaetomium and its mycotoxins have been documented comparatively better than many other fungi. Prolonged exposure to high levels of this fungi in the home can be extremely dangerous and therefore avoided.
