***FUNGI FRIDAY ALERT***
What Are Spegazzinia Spores?
Speggazzinia is a genus of fungi that primarily grows on decaying plant material, such as leaves and wood. It is considered saprophytic, meaning it feeds on dead organic matter rather than living hosts.
Why Might Spegazzinia Appear in a Mold Report?
Outdoor Origin: These spores are typically outdoor molds. Their presence indoors often suggests airflow from outside, open windows, or poor sealing rather than active indoor growth.
Not Commonly Indoor-Growing: Spegazzinia is not known to colonize indoor environments. So, if it’s found in low quantities indoors, it’s usually not a sign of contamination or an active mold problem.
Surface Contamination or Air Sample Drift: They may show up in air samples (especially if near an open door or window) or on surface samples in dusty areas.
Health Concerns
Low Risk: Spegazzinia is not known to be a human pathogen and does not typically cause health issues.
