Last week we saw mold can still grow on treated wood if the conditions are right.
Well, what about copper pipes?? Both are common building materials found in many homes. Read on for the answer!
Mold generally does not grow directly on copper pipes because copper has antimicrobial properties that inhibit mold and bacterial growth. However, mold can grow on dust, dirt, or other organic matter that may collect on the surface of copper pipes, especially if there’s moisture present.
If the surrounding environment is damp (like in basements, crawl spaces, or near plumbing leaks), mold may grow on nearby surfaces, insulation, or drywall near the pipes, indirectly affecting the pipes as well. Keeping the area dry, controlling humidity, and cleaning regularly can prevent mold in areas with copper piping.
