Mold Testing Methods: Limited Infrared (IR) Scans
Infrared (IR) scanning for water detection is an excellent way to help determine the source of moisture build up that we can’t always find with the naked eye. The process works by utilizes infrared technology to detect temperature variations associated with moisture or water intrusion in building materials. All objects with a temperature above absolute zero (-273.15°C or 0 Kelvin) emit infrared radiation. The amount of radiation emitted by an object is directly related to its temperature. When building materials are exposed to moisture, such as water leaks or infiltration, they typically exhibit different thermal properties compared to dry materials, detectable by different colors on the IR scanner.
